Mission: groom engineers
\"Retirement doesn't make the problems go away,\" he says. \"Rather than sit at home and worry about the future, I'd rather be back, getting my hands dirty.\" \"If you don't have engineers, you can't get things done. All the cries in the world about non-delivery won't help if you don't have the people to get the process in motion.\" \"The municipality cannot pay the salary of an academic, but we found a way to take the idea forward.\" The \"way\" was an old engineering fund (the KwaZulu-Natal Civil Support Fund), which had fallen into disuse.

TRIBES OF SYDNEY
WHAT: Long before the first crack of lightning, these thrillseekers will have watched the storm develop through online weather reports, and taken phone calls from regional observers. Such is their enthusiasm, members have been known to drive 1500km in pursuit of the storm clouds. This is a great time of year to spot water spouts, which are tornados out at sea. They look like grey towers between sea and sky. But the most violent weather comes during summer, when hot and cold air clash to bring spectacular tropical storms. Hot spots in Sydney are the Northern Beaches, an area geographically a little higher than the rest of the city. Other prime locations are the south-western suburbs such as Campbelltown, Liverpool and Bankstown, as well as the Hunter Valley and Richmond areas. Storm-chasing can be dangerous, according to the association's NSW representative Keith Barnett, 58. \"You can get into danger quite easily,\" he says.

Help us to make a splash for Owen
\"Out of it, he's a dead weight and it's a strain on me. \"Last year we hired a hot tub for a week but now he's growing rapidly. He's outgrown that one and we need something bigger. [Keith Barnett] said: \"[Owen]'s one major joy is when his mum can take him occasionally to a facility with a small pool or hot tub where he can freely use his limbs and chuckle with happiness.\"

The Unhappy Pig Company
'I told [Keith Barnett], but he didn't even bother to move the bodies.' A source close to the investigation said: 'The animals that had to be put down just hadn't been fed properly.' Mr Barnett said: 'I changed from computing to pig farming because I liked the idea of being in the fresh air. We learned about pig farming off the internet and went on a weekend course. 'Recently I've been ill and I'm ashamed to say it all got on top of me. Three pigs died - we're not sure why, we've been giving them ample feed, it could be old age - but I was ill so couldn't clear them away. 'I didn't know they were eating each other - and I'll certainly carry on with the Happy Pig Company when the investigation is over. The dead ones were happy pigs until they got hungry.' Mr [Andrew Dyer-Wright] said: 'To have my own pigs was a dream come true. I don't know what's gone wrong.' The Animal Health agency and East Sussex county council confirmed they were investigating. n.sears@dailymail.co.uk
U.S. team member copes with father's death
Tonight's match will be the first time since his father's death that Barnett returns to competition. [Kevin Barnett]'s brother, [Keith Barnett], 23, a U.S. national B team member, will be among the spectators at World Arena. Then, just three weeks later, the stunning news. Kevin, the U.S. team's leading scorer after the split with the Netherlands May 19- 20, hasn't played since then. While it has been an emotional time, Kevin anticipates no problems getting back on the volleyball court, or coping with Father's Day next week. What it means: USA's final match in Colorado Springs. The U.S. team travels to the Netherlands next for the final preliminary round match. Top two teams in each four-team pool advance to the final round.
