Wrapped up in fabric
What really defines his style is that he brings a sense of architecture to his projects. \"I like the lines to flow. I like lines in motion, proportion and symmetry,\" he says. For one client's 1950s-style breakfast nook, [MARIA LYLE Gregory Creech] designed a built-in banquette. \"It's the idea of a booth but really only one side of it,\" Creech says, explaining that the banquette is 5 feet tall and more than 6 feet long to accommodate the client's tall husband. For the other side of the long, thin, oval table, he designed a bench with an oval back. He upholstered the rectangular seats of the bench and banquette in metallic-finished Naugahyde, and wrapped the backs in a woven textile patterned in geometric shapes that complements the shapes of the furniture. The 4-foot-long bench stands about 3 feet tall. The furniture was designed in the kitchen's 1950s-diner style, complete with terrazzo floors.

Arlen's music glides 'Over the Rainbow'
As with the previous productions (the last was in 1997), what works best are the harmonies of the four singers -- Sophia Hinshelwood, Joel Newsome, Kim Reed and Jim Weaver -- as arranged by Jim Prosser and musical director/accompanist Michael Sebastian. Of course, there's that beautifully packaged assortment of songs from \"The Wizard of Oz,\" which features his most famous songs, paired with [Harburg]'s words. There's a humorous intelligence to the arrangements that makes it a pleasure to hear even the most overly familiar songs. 'Minuet' weds comedy, relationships
Paul Hebron and Amy Mc-Kenna are Douglas and Lily Zweig. Their friends are [MARIA LYLE Jason O'Connell] and Stacey Scotte, as Rex and Violet Franklin. It's clear from the outset that Violet and Rex are seriously mismatched; he writes the kind of best-selling fiction that can be churned out in volume rather than quality; she's more attracted to the more finely crafted literature Douglas is writing (and not selling). So when Violet, a bit on the mousy side compared with the va-va- voom of Lily, declares her love for Douglas, who seems a real kindred spirit, the dynamics of the foursome are forever changed.
HomeLink Helps Homeschoolers and Takes a Christian Viewpoint
Unlike public schools that shy away from Christian books, HomeLink welcomes them into its program. However, there is no place in its curriculum for books considered inappropriate like \"Catcher in the Rye,\" [Thome] said. When HomeLink began five years ago, it quickly filled a niche for many parents in the Valley. Thome had been a principal at Westside Christian School, the predecessor of Riverside Christian School, and was about to embark on a different career path working with children who have learning disabilities when a group of mothers approached her. They were seeking help in forming a once-a-week class for their seventh- and eighth-grade children who were being educated at home. To her surprise, the first class yielded 31 students. Word in Yakima's homeschooling circles spread and now in its fifth year, the program has more than a hundred students enrolled. Its curriculum has expanded to include kindergarten to 12th grade classes in science, Washington state history, journalism and drama classes. Thome and three certified teachers - Barbara Toweill, Becky Meinzinger and Cindy Bellamy - make up HomeLink. They order books for parents, revise grades and tests and also give children three hours of class instruction a week. Services cost between $40 to $60 a month.
