2005
The plasma of monkeys envenomated with tiger snake (
Notechis scutatus) venom was monitored by radioimmunoassay for both crude venom and a neurotoxin. When the injected limb was immobilised and a pressure of 55
mm Hg applied to the injection site, only very low levels of circulating venom or neurotoxin were detectable. In practical terms, venom movement can be effectively delayed for long periods by the application of a firm crepe bandage to the length of the bitten limb combined with immobilisation by a splint. Pressure alone or immobilisation alone did not delay venom movement.

Toxinology down under
2002
Toxinology has a long and cherished tradition of genius and eccentricity. The animals and clinical effects studied by our specialty foster a unique medical perspective that is only occasionally punctuated by a bout of fisticuffs. The study of toxins has produced knowledge and products that have improved the health of millions, perhaps billions, of people. The many diagnostic and therapeutic applications of antisera alone have influenced the treatment of many diseases, especially in less-developed countries. Sodiumchannel blockade affects scores of diseases. In the context of medical books, toxinology has generated unique books and informative books, and, in rare and beautiful examples, even some uniquely informative books. There is no medical publication that can survive the devastating critique of an ardent toxicology housestaff, and we concluded that Australian Animal Toxins is a uniquely informative book.

There isn't enough passenger demand to warrant expenditure on rail link to airport
2011
Mr [K A Sutherland] should explain why the cancellation of the most inconvenient GARL link (far side of the airport car park to the far side of Central station) has contributed to, \"the loss of 1400 long-term GARL-generated jobs in Renfrewshire\". Why does he imagine that, \"private sector capital could be encouraged to participate in an early resurrection of GARL and Crossrail\", when consultants Sinclair Knight Merz's initial advice to the Scottish Executive, dated February 2003, was, \"Because the extra rail revenues would not exceed the additional rail operating costs, the project would not be commercially viable let alone attractive to private sector lenders and investors\"?

Speeding behind deadly auto wreck
2004
[Rhonda K. Sutherland] was northbound through a construction zone about 10:30 a.m., [Bud Cooper] said, when her 1996 Ford Taurus hydroplaned and slid into the southbound lanes. Cooper said a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by a 16-year-old Maryville girl slammed into the side of Sutherland's car. Unlike the occupants of the Lumina, Sutherland wasn't wearing a seat belt, Cooper said. However, he added it's doubtful that wearing a restraint would have saved her life. Slowing down, on the other hand, would have prevented the wreck altogether, he said.
