Overview
A recent study in a Medicaid population indicated an increased risk of cardiovascular death with azithromycin. The current study in a population in Denmark indicates no increase in risk. In a related Perspective, the FDA reviews its reasons for adding a warning of increased risk to the drug label. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic agent primarily used for the treatment of lower and upper respiratory infections and some sexually transmitted infections.
