Overview
Several events organized by the section at ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta were particularly wellattended: its program on the evaluation of historical sources on Web, the section dinner, and the joint meeting of the Genealogy Committee and the Genealogy and Local History Discussion Group. As a visitor to the joint meetings, during his year as section chair Niessen wants to emphasize the impressive work it has done under the leadership of an outgoing committee chair, the continuing discussion group chair Tom Kemp. The joint meeting again gave time to informative presentations, business, and reports from the field. Vladimir Wertsman spoke about his contributions to work on ethnic reference materials, and Tom Kemp presented an analysis of the newly released microfilm of the 1930 U.S. federal census. The committee received reports on its genealogy preconference and a proposed guideline for continuing education workshops. Finally, colleagues from around the country reported on new acquisitions, outreach activities, digital projects, and other news. The incoming committee chair is Bill Buckner.
