Like other studies, we found the most commonly implicated traumatic injuries among our patient group to be motor vehicle collisions. 1 Prior research has identified risk factors and indicators that furnish a predictive value for estimating infectious complications in trauma patients: rhabdomyolysis, open, grossly contaminated comminuted fractures, massive blood transfusion, ISS >15, penetrating abdominal trauma, and retained orthopedic hardware.1,4 Our patients with positive Aspergillus isolates had similar risk factors for such infectious complications.
