Overview
As the outlines of the new world of work in what is known as the d are taking shape, the new reality is making its impact on the millions of individual workers across the world. The way individuals respond to these changes will largely determine their success and future career prospects. Still, the mechanism of individual response to the changing working environment is not yet fully understood.Building upon the Social Cognitive Theory and The Dynamic Capabilities perspective applied within the Socio-Technical System model, this study proposes a conceptual model of individual response to fundamental changes in the working environments. Specifically, the model envisions response as a process where dynamic external factors (global competitive pressures, emerging innovating technologies, and future work prospect) lead to development of strategic planning and operational implementation practices. These, in turn, determine work performance outcomes such as employment flexibility, technology solution, and social influence. The research aims to test the relationships between these factors. The study will apply a mixed methods research design to examine employment trends, as well as interviews and surveys with individuals drawn from the population of work professionals in different industries and career paths. The study will offer implications of theoretical and practical nature and provide avenues for further research in the field of individual responses to changing nature of work.
